Latest Dolphins News
Jalen Ramsey : Not expected to attend minicamp
Ramsey is not planning to attend the Dolphins' mandatory minicamp during the coming week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It was reported in mid-April that Ramsey and the Dolphins were mutually interested in parting ways via a trade, and that sentiment doesn't seem to have changed on either side. Though a deal hasn't come to fruition yet, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post suggested in late May that the Rams, Cowboys and Commanders could be possible suitors. Per Rapoport, Ramsey is planning to stay away from the Dolphins until the situation is resolved.
Kion Smith : Getting long look at OTAs
Smith (knee) has been getting an "extended look" during Miami's offseason team activities, Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Smith tore his ACL during a preseason game last August and missed the entire 2024 season. The offensive lineman is now healthy again and has "performed reasonably well" during OTAs, per Perkins. Smith is competing for a depth role and a spot on the Dolphins' 53-man roster.
Cam Smith : Seeing action in OTAs
Smith (shoulder) has been a participant during the Dolphins' offseason training activities, Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Smith missed Miami's final five games last season after landing on IR due to a shoulder injury. The South Carolina product also began the campaign on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue, so health will be a big priority for the cornerback this year. Smith worked in a rotational role and contributed on special teams when he was able to play last season, and he figures to take on a similar role in 2025.
Grayson Murphy : Healthy for OTAs
Murphy (knee) has been participating in Miami's offseason training activities, Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Murphy joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent last August but didn't get to see any action during the regular season, as he injured his knee in a preseason contest and missed the entire campaign. According to Perkins, Murphy tallied 3.0 sacks during practice Tuesday, so he seems to be making a good impression. Murphy will be competing for a depth role at outside linebacker during training camp.
Tahj Washington : Works with non-contact jersey
Washington (undisclosed) has been doing work in a non-contact jersey during OTAs, Chris Perkins of The South Florida Sentinel reports. The seventh-round pick in the 2024 draft was placed on the reserve/injured list with his undisclosed issue last July, ending his rookie season before it started. Now, the USC product might have a chance to compete for a depth role behind Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Washington caught 59 passes for 1,062 yards and eight touchdowns in his final collegiate season in 2023.
Tua Tagovailoa : Stepping up as team leader
Tagovailoa (hip) has been an active participant at OTAs and drawn praise from head coach Mike McDaniel for having "the most ownership of all the players on each and every down," Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports. Tagovailoa looked sharp throwing Tuesday despite rainy field conditions, per Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, and he's displayed no lingering issues related to the hip injury that forced him to sit out the final two regular-season games of 2024. Now heading into Year 4 in McDaniel's offense, and with top wideouts Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle returning, the stage is set for Tagovailoa to hit the ground running in 2025, with excuses running out if this team again underperforms compared to expectation. In response to the concussion and hip injuries that partially derailed Tagovailoa in 2024, McDaniel deployed a new offensive philosophy prioritizing short-area targets to De'Veon Achane and Jonnu Smith at the expense of Hill and Waddle. One of the largest offseason questions for 2025 fantasy projections remains whether the Dolphins reprise a similar approach, which would help keep Tagovailoa from taking hits behind an already-poor offensive line that lost Terron Armstead to retirement, or return to the aggressive stance that saw the southpaw turn in a league-leading 4,624 passing yards while playing all 17 regular-season games in 2023. Recent trade rumors surrounding Smith, who desires a new contract after breaking out in 2024, suggest a willingness to de-prioritize targets to the tight end position and return to funneling things through Hill and Waddle.
Austin Jackson : Deemed healthy
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Jackson (knee) is healthy, Kaitlyn Pohly of the Miami Herald reports. Jackson missed the final eight games of the 2024 season but is back to full health. He's expected to man right tackle for the Dolphins this coming season.
Jonnu Smith : Wants salary bump, could be traded
The Dolphins have engaged in trade talks with Pittsburgh revolving around Smith, who is seeking a reworked contract after breaking out with a career-best 88 catches, 884 yards and eight scores on 111 targets across 17 regular-season games in 2024, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Smith, who earned the first Pro Bowl nod of his career in 2024 and set new franchise records at the tight end position for Miami in terms of essentially all pass-catching metrics, is currently heading into the final season of his two-year, $10 million contract with the team and slated for just a $3.49 million base salary in 2025. His involvement on offense came at the expense of star wideouts Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle, and was due in part to coach Mike McDaniel's offense uncharacteristically abandoning downfield aggression in favor of short-area targets to Smith and running back De'Von Achane. The Dolphins' willingness to engage in trade talks regarding Smith, even after his productive breakout, could signal a desire for the team to resume primarily featuring Hill and Waddle, though that will only be possible if Tua Tagovailoa (hip) can remain healthier and an O-line that lost LT Terron Armstead to retirement is able to take a step forward. Pittsburgh should be considered a real suitor despite the presence of Pat Freiermuth, given offensive offensive coordinator's fondness for Smith, who he coached in both Tennessee and Atlanta.
