Kurtz (hip) went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Single-A Stockton on Saturday. Kurtz showed off his well-known power with a two-run homer that landed on the right-field porch. The 22-year-old was expected to be activated June 9, and with no setbacks in his rehab outing, he remains on track to return Monday. On the year, the first baseman is slashing .245/.315/.447 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 28 games.

Latest Athletics News
Nick Kurtz : Rakes in rehab game
Kurtz (hip) went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Single-A Stockton on Saturday. Kurtz showed off his well-known power with a two-run homer that landed on the right-field porch. The 22-year-old was expected to be activated June 9, and with no setbacks in his rehab outing, he remains on track to return Monday. On the year, the first baseman is slashing .245/.315/.447 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 28 games.
Jacob Lopez : Bounces back against Orioles
Lopez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Baltimore, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over four innings. Lopez allowed 12 runs and five homers across six innings over his last two appearances, but he fared much better Sunday. Lopez has flashed some elite strikeout stuff, fanning eight or more batters in two of his last four outings, though he's stumbled to a 7.20 ERA in 24 innings this season. He's tentatively scheduled to make another start next weekend at Kansas City.
Max Muncy : Lifts homer
Muncy went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 5-1 win over Baltimore. Muncy went yard for the second time in three games, tagging Bryan Baker for a solo shot in the eighth inning. The third baseman spent over a month in Triple-A before being called up June 4, and he's 4-for-17 (.235) with four RBI and six strikeouts since.
Denzel Clarke : Back in action Sunday
Clarke (shoulder) is starting in center field and batting ninth Sunday against the Orioles. The 25-year-old was withheld from the starting nine Saturday after he exited Friday's contest due to a bruised left shoulder, but he's ready to play after sitting out just one game. After going 1-for-19 with 15 strikeouts in his first six big-league games, Clarke has found his footing of late with one homer, three steals and a .333/.379/.481 slash line in his past eight contests. However, he still has a 41.4 percent strikeout rate during that latter stretch, so the production may not be sustainable.
Robert Wynns : Shipped to Athletics
The Athletics acquired Wynns from the Reds on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations. The 34-year-old was designated for assignment by the Reds on Friday but will remain on a 40-man roster with the A's. Wynns has a 1.142 OPS with three homers in 18 big-league games this season and will provide the Athletics with some veteran catching depth.
Carlos Duran : Removed from 40-man roster
The Athletics designated Duran for assignment Sunday. The 23-year-old was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for catcher Austin Wynns. Duran, acquired from the Dodgers on April 2, made just one appearance in the majors, allowing three runs in one-third of an inning. His struggles have continued at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he's posted an 8.00 ERA and 1.96 WHIP over 27 innings.
Tyler Soderstrom : Gets aboard five times
Soderstrom went 1-for-1 with four walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Orioles. Soderstrom showed off a couple of things he's not particularly known for -- speed and patience at the plate. He's now at a 10.0 percent walk rate on the year, though he still strikes out a fair amount (25.4 percent) as well. Soderstrom also swiped his third bag of the year. The 23-year-old has maintained a .256/.341/.480 slash line with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 35 runs scored, 11 doubles and a triple over 66 contests. He should continue to play at first base until Nick Kurtz (hip) is healthy, at which point Soderstrom will likely rejoin the mix in left field.
Luis Severino : Can’t hold lead Saturday
Severino (1-6) allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Orioles. The Athletics gave Severino a 4-1 lead to work with after one inning, but he couldn't guard it. The Orioles' comeback began with a Ramon Laureano solo shot in the fourth inning, and Severino ultimately gave up the decisive run on Colton Cowser's solo homer in the sixth. This outing ended a stretch of 10 starts where Severino didn't give up a homer, but he still hasn't been all that effective. For the season, he has a 4.77 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 60:27 K:BB through 83 innings over 14 starts, though he's allowed just six homers all year. His next start is projected to be on the road in Kansas City.
