Vargas went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Royals. Vargas gave the White Sox an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning and later added an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth. The long ball was his first in eight June games, during which he's gone just 5-for-24 at the plate. On the season, the 25-year-old is slashing .237/.319/.421 with nine home runs, 29 RBI, 30 runs scored and one stolen base across 257 plate appearances.

Latest White Sox News
Miguel Vargas : Homers in loss
Vargas went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Royals. Vargas gave the White Sox an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning and later added an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth. The long ball was his first in eight June games, during which he's gone just 5-for-24 at the plate. On the season, the 25-year-old is slashing .237/.319/.421 with nine home runs, 29 RBI, 30 runs scored and one stolen base across 257 plate appearances.
Mike Vasil : Allows two runs in first start
Vasil did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Royals, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with one strikeout over 3.1 innings. Vasil threw 33 of 50 pitches for strikes but managed just two whiffs in his first major-league start. The rookie has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any of his 19 outings this season and now sports a 2.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 28:22 K:BB across 41.1 innings. If he gets another turn in the rotation, it would likely come on the road against the Rangers next weekend.
Fraser Ellard : Moved to 60-day IL
The White Sox transferred Ellard (lat) to the 60-day injured list Sunday. Ellard landed on the 15-day IL in early May due to a left lat strain, and he's far enough way from a return to warrant placement on the 60-day IL. The move makes room on the 40-man roster for veteran reliever Tyler Alexander, who agreed to a contract with Chicago on Sunday.
Jared Shuster : Placed on IL
The White Sox placed Shuster on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a blister on his left hand. Shuster last pitched Wednesday against Detroit, allowing four runs in one inning as an opener. He appears to have picked up a blister in that outing and will now be sidelined for about two weeks. The IL move is retroactive to June 5, so Shuster will be eligible to be activated June 20. In corresponding roster moves, the White Sox signed veteran reliever Tyler Alexander and transferred Fraser Ellard to the 60-day IL.
Tyler Alexander : Signs with ChiSox
The White Sox signed Alexander to a one-year, $760,000 contract Sunday. Alexander was DFA'd by Milwaukee last Sunday and elected free agency after clearing waivers. He struggled during his tenure with the Brewers, posting a 6.19 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB over 36.1 innings while picking up a hold, a save and a 3-5 record. Alexander can serve in a swingman role, as he made four starts earlier this season, including a start against Cincinnati on April 4 during which he tossed 5.2 hitless innings. In corresponding roster moves Sunday, Jared Shuster landed on the 15-day IL due to a blister, and Fraser Ellard was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Edgar Quero : On bench against righty
Quero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. Quero will hit the bench against a righty (Michael Lorenzen) for the second time in the series, and he looks as though he'll have to settle for a timeshare at catcher with Kyle Teel, who was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Given that Teel bats from the left side and Quero is a switch hitter, it wouldn't be surprising if Teel ended up seeing the bulk of starts at catcher when the White Sox face righties.
Chase Meidroth : Goes deep in victory
Meidroth went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 4-1 win against the Royals on Saturday. Meidroth contributed a 373-foot solo shot in the third inning to give Chicago a 3-1 lead. The long ball was just the second of the season for the rookie infielder, but he's slashing a strong .300/.386/.373 through 42 games. Meidroth has also demonstrated elite plate discipline, as he has more walks (21) than strikeouts (20) on the campaign.
Timothy Elko : Slugs homer Saturday
Elko went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a double Saturday in a 4-1 win against Kansas City. Elko belted a two-run shot in the second inning to put Chicago in the lead for good. The 26-year-old appears to be settling into a full-time role at first base -- since his promotion from Triple-A on June 4, Elko has made four straight starts at the position, going 3-for-15 with three RBI. Meanwhile, Miguel Vargas, who had been playing first base regularly, has been slotting in at third while Josh Rojas has mostly moved to second base in the wake of Lenyn Sosa's placement on the IL due to a hip injury.
