Dalbec cleared waivers Tuesday and elected free agency, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Dalbec was dropped from the White Sox's 40-man roster Sunday after going 4-for-18 with an RBI and two runs scored in seven games with the big club. The 29-year-old will now attempt to latch on with another organization, likely on a minor-league deal.

The White Sox designated Dalbec for assignment on Sunday. The 29-year-old was added to the big-league roster April 21 and appeared in seven games during his time in the majors, going 4-for-18 with three walks and six strikeouts. Dalbec could return to Triple-A Charlotte if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
Draws first start
Dalbec went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk Tuesday against the Twins. Dalbec was added to the roster Monday and made his first start of the season at third base while hitting eighth Tuesday. He was in the lineup to give Miguel Vargas a breather, so there doesn't appear to be a clear path to regular at-bats for Dalbec. However, if he can string together some hits, the White Sox may be inclined to find creative ways to get him into the lineup.

The White Sox selected Dalbec's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Dalbec, 29, has slashed .326/.354/.696 with four home runs this season with Charlotte to earn a promotion to the big club. He could see some action at designated hitter for Chicago and is capable of handling all four corner spots defensively.
Reassigned to minors camp
The White Sox reassigned Dalbec to minor-league camp Wednesday. Dalbec submitted a .607 OPS during Cactus League play and was denied a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old will give the White Sox some experienced depth at Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox signed Dalbec to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Dalbec showed some initial promise with the Red Sox with 33 home runs in his first 156 games, but his performance and opportunities dwindled since then, as he posted a .599 OPS and 37.9 percent strikeout rate since the start of the 2022 season. The 29-year-old should have a decent shot to crack the White Sox' Opening Day roster, perhaps as a short-side platoon option.

The Red Sox outrighted Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Dalbec was scrubbed from the 40-man roster over the weekend but will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. He will be eligible for minor-league free agency this offseason if he remains off the 40-man roster following the World Series.

Dalbec has hit 47 home runs for the Red Sox over the past four seasons, and if he elects to move on from the organization, he should get interest from teams looking for a lefty-hitting first baseman.
