Homers in massive loss

Schuemann went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 19-2 loss to the Dodgers. Schuemann started at second base, entering the starting nine for the first time since April 29. He has yet to bat higher than ninth in the order while serving as a utility player throughout the early stages of the campaign. The 27-year-old has done fine when called upon, batting .250 with a .752 OPS, one homer, one RBI, six runs scored, two stolen bases and two triples over 39 plate appearances. However, it'll likely take injuries to other players for Schuemann to carve out a larger role.
Drawing third start of season

Schuemann will start at third base and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the White Sox. Schuemann has the ability to play all over the infield and outfield, but with the Athletics having enjoyed generally good health so far this season from their position players, the 27-year-old utility man hasn't been able to pick up meaningful playing time. He'll be starting Thursday for just the third time in the Athletics' first 19 games.
Looks set for utility role

Schuemann appears likely to win a roster spot in a utility role with the A's, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. He's hitting .227 (5-for-22) in nine games this spring. Schuemann made his big-league debut in 2024 with the A's and posted a .220/.311/.308 slash line with seven home runs and 14 steals in 133 games. He saw most of his playing time at shortstop, but Jacob Wilson appears set as the starting shortstop. Schuemann could be good source of speed (14 steals last season) if he finds significant playing time.
Not starting Friday

Schuemann is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners. Schuemann has slashed .141/.191/.188 with three runs scored and three RBI over 68 plate appearances since Sept. 1. Darell Hernaiz will start at third base Friday and bat ninth.
Sitting Tuesday

Schuemann isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday versus the Rangers. Schuemann will get a chance to regroup Tuesday after going 0-for-10 with three strikeouts across his last four games. Darell Hernaiz will fill the opening at third base and bat ninth while Schuemann rests.
Day off versus lefty

Schuemann isn't in Oakland's lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees. Southpaw Carlos Rodon will toe the slab for New York on Saturday, meaning the left-handed bat of Schuemann won't be part of Oakland's starting nine. Nick Allen will replace him at the hot corner while batting ninth.
Getting day off

Schuemann is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Cubs. Schuemann manned third base for the Athletics in each of the previous five games, but he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Nick Allen will handle the hot corner and bat ninth.
